What happens to the child support payments after I no longer receive money from the State?
Answer:
When parents no longer receive the Family Independence Program (FIP) grant, they will receive the regular monthly child support payment like they did before getting the grant - for as long as the paying parent still has to pay. Money collected is first used to pay the current support. Any additional money received that exceeds the monthly child support obligation is distributed to past-due support owed to the family first. If there isn't any past-due support owed to the family then the extra money is applied to past-due support owed to the state.
