Why would the state keep my child support payments?
Answer:
When people receive a Family Independence Program (FIP) grant, they give up their rights to receive child support during the time they receive money from the State of Michigan. While you are receiving a Family Independence Program grant, the child support collected, if any, is reimbursed to the state for FIP monies received. When you no longer receive the Family Independence Program (FIP) grant, you will receive your child support payments again.
